Marshawn Kneeland’s alma mater paid tribute to the Dallas Cowboys defensive end during its Tuesday night game.
Before it kicked off against Ohio, Western Michigan’s football team shared photos of its Kneeland tributes on social media. The Broncos wore a helmet decal that read “MK 99,” while Kneeland’s No. 99 was painted on the sidelines at Stafford-Smith Field at Waldo Stadium in Kalamazoo, Michigan. Players also carried a No. 99 jersey out to midfield.
Here’s a look at the tributes:

Kneeland played at Western Michigan from 2019-23, posting 148 total tackles, 27.5 tackles for loss, 13 sacks and forcing three fumbles. The Cowboys selected the defensive end in the second round of the 2024 NFL draft.
“I am deeply saddened by the passing of Marshawn,” former Western Michigan coach Tim Lester, now the offensive coordinator at Iowa, said. “He was a great teammate and a joy to coach. His smile, work ethic, and heart touched so many. My heart goes out to his loved ones. May he rest in peace.”
The Cowboys are planning multiple tributes for Kneeland in the coming weeks. Players and coaches will wear special t-shirts in Kneeland’s honor for the Cowboys’ next two games. Players will also don helmet decals.
Dallas is also planning a moment of silence for Kneeland at its next home on Nov. 23 against the Philadelphia Eagles. Kneeland’s family members and girlfriend Catalina are scheduled to attend.
This past weekend, NFL teams held a moment of silence for the 24-year-old Kneeland.
