What was Belichick’s answer?

The UNC football team, suddenly winners of two straight, is balancing the challenge of next opponent up and bowl eligibility.

North Carolina has to win two of its final three games to make a bowl game, with road matchups against Wake Forest and NC State sandwiching a home matchup against Duke. This won’t be an easy challenge, something the Tar Heels are very familiar with.

Bill Belichick, in his first season coaching college football, won eight Super Bowls during his nearly 50 NFL seasons. Belichick spent 1979-1990 on the New York Giants‘ coaching staff, win his first two Super Bowls.

With the G-Men recently firing Brian Daboll, it’s no shocker that Belichick’s name comes up as a potential head coach replacement.

During media availability on Tuesday afternoon, Belichick answered a question about the Giants’ coaching job with a signature answer.

“We’re getting ready for Wake Forest,” Belichick said. That’s all I got this week. I’ve been asked about it from time to time. But look, I’ve been down this road before. I’m focused on Wake Forest. That’s it, and that’s my commitment to this team. And next week, it’ll be our next opponent, and so forth. But I’m here to do the best I can for this team.”

Belichick signed a 5-year, $50 million contract with UNC in December 2024 – and repeatedly states his interest in coaching college football. North Carolina still has gameplay kinks to work out, but finally appears to be rounding into Belichick’s program vision.

Does Belichick revisit this vacancy in East Rutherford upon the Tar Heels’ final game?
