It has been a tumultuous season for Jaire Alexander, who is now with the Philadelphia Eagles following his mid-season trade. The two-time Pro Bowl cornerback parted ways with the Green Bay Packers during the offseason after spending his entire seven-year career with the same team that selected him 18th overall in the 2018 NFL Draft. Alexander signed with the Baltimore Ravens in the offseason as a free agent, but his stint in Baltimore lasted just two games.

Before this year’s trade deadline, Baltimore sent Alexander to the Eagles along with a 2027 seventh-round pick in exchange for a 2026 sixth-round pick.

Alexander established himself as one of the top CBs in the NFL during his time in Green Bay. In seven seasons with the Packers, the former Louisville Cardinals star registered 12 interceptions for 201 yards returned and 287 combined tackles (241 solo).

Alexander hoped for a fresh start with the Ravens after parting ways with the Packers in the offseason. This did not come to fruition, though, with the 28-year-old failing to establish himself on the depth chart.

Alexander has yet to make his Eagles debut since his trade earlier this month. Apart from still recovering from offseason knee surgery, Philadelphia reportedly wanted to get him “acclimated to their defensive system” and “up to speed on his knee maintenance” before giving him the green light to play.

A new report surfaced on Tuesday, however, and it has now placed Alexander’s NFL future in serious doubt. According to NFL reporter Dianna Russini of The Athletic, Alexander has informed the Eagles that he is stepping away from the team “to focus on getting right physically and mentally.” Moreover, the cornerback is reportedly also “contemplating retirement.”

It is unclear how much time Alexander will spend away from the team. However, it now appears that there is a significant chance he has already played his last game in the NFL.

The Eagles are coming off a 10-7 win over Alexander’s former team, the Packers, on Monday night. The defending champions improved to 7-2 after the victory. They will be back in action on Sunday in a Week 11 matchup against the 6-3 Detroit Lions.
