The Pittsburgh Steelers hosted a familiar face in C.J. Henderson for a visit and tryout on Tuesday, according to the NFL transaction wire.
Henderson was with the team a year ago but suffered a season-ending neck injury and walked in free agency. He was with the Atlanta Falcons in August of this year, but the Steelers could use some cornerback help with Darius Slay injured.
Over the last year, Henderson has worked out for over five different teams before the Falcons inked him to a deal, giving him a chance to stick with a new team. But he was released at the end of the preseason.
The Steelers signed Henderson to the active roster after multiple teams tried to sign him from the practice squad. A former top-ten pick, Henderson has yet to live up to the potential of his billing, but the talented cornerback has plenty of experience, and teams value that.
Over his career, he has spent time with the Jacksonville Jaguars, Carolina Panthers, and Houston Texans before signing to the Steelers’ practice squad last season.
Pittsburgh has outside cornerback Daryl Porter Jr. and slot cornerback Daequan Hardy on their practice squad. They are reportedly signing Asante Samuel Jr. after a visit, and have an open roster spot on their practice squad after releasing Darrick Forrest.
