See who the Cardinals brought in on Tuesday for tryouts.
Tuesday was tryout day for the Arizona Cardinals again this week. Dealing with a number of injuries in the defensive backfield, the NFL transaction report showed they hosted three defensive backs who tried out. This usually precedes at least one being signed to the practice squad.
Who were the three defensive backs they brought in?
M.J. DevonshireLaMareon JamesShaun Jolly
Devonshire is a cornerback who has not yet appeared in a game in the NFL. He was drafted by the Las Vegas Raiders in the seventh round in 2024. He is 5-foor-11 and 186 pounds. He spent his rookie season on the Raiders’ practice squad, was cut in April and claimed by the Carolina Panthers. He was cut with an injury designation and then received an injury settlement, signed with the Baltimore Ravens in August and was cut again before the season.
James, a cornerback, was a rookie free agent his year who signed with the Cleveland Browns. He was cut before the season, signed by the New York Giants to their practice squad in September and cut in October. He is 5-foot-10 and 193 pounds. He played collegiately for TCU.
Jolly is a 5-foot-9 cornerback who has been around in the league since 2022. He signed with the Browns as an undrafted rookie and began the year on their practice squad. The Los Angeles Rams signed him to their roster. In 2023 and 2024 he got hurt, was waived with an injury settlement and, in both seasons, was re-signed to the practice squad. It happened to him again this year, getting waived in August with an injury, reverting to injured reserve and then getting cut with a settlement. He has played in six NFL games in 2022-2023, lossing 95 snaps on special teams.
