Purdy gets his first game action since Week 5.
The San Francisco 49ers, the Arizona Cardinals‘ Week 11 opponent, get their starting quarterback back. Quarterback Brock Purdy will return to the starting lineup, playing for the first time since Week 5.
Head coach Kyle Shanahan announced that Purdy would start on Sunday in the taping of the 49ers “Game Plan” television program.
Purdy has been out with a toe injury. He got hurt in Week 1, missed the next three games, returned in Week 5 against the Jacksonville Jaguars but still wasn’t right, and he has been out since.
The 6-4 49ers have been solid with Mac Jones playing in Purdy’s place. Jones is 5-3 in those eight starts and has completed 69.6% of his passes for 2,151 yards, 13 touchdowns and six interceptions. In Week 3 against the Cardinals, Jones had 284 passing yards, a touchdown pass and an interception, and he led the Niners on a game-winning drive that ended with a field goal as time expired for a 16-15 win.
Purdy returns to face a team he has fared well against. In five career starts against the Cardinals, Purdy is 4-1 and has thrown nine touchdown passes and two interceptions. He has also rushed for a touchdown.
The Cardinals and 49ers kick off from State Farm Stadium on Sunday at 4:05 p.m. ET (2:05 p.m. Arizona time).
