El Paso’s Deion Hankins will get a chance to get a make a National Football League roster.

Hankins will join the Chicago Bears as an undrafted free agent, per his agency on Instagram, Musgrove Agency. He was not drafted in the three-day NFL Draft, which was held April 24-26.

Hankins was an El Paso hometown football hero, making the Parkland High School Matadors one of the best teams in the city while setting the city’s rushing record before going on to play at UTEP and Texas State.

Hankins was a productive player at UTEP from 2019-23. As a freshman, he rushed for 592 yards, followed by 458 yards, 701 yards and 812 yards for the Miners.

He played his final season at Texas State in 2024 and in the 13 games, he rushed for 272 yards with two touchdowns on 62 carries.

At Parkland High School, Hankins rushed for 7,491 rushing yards and 78 touchdowns.
