In Sunday’s game against the Arizona Cardinals, former USC quarterback Sam Darnold led the Seattle Seahawks to a dominant win. However, Darnold was not the only Trojan QB to play in the game. With Arizona getting blown out late in the game, the Cardinals brought in former USC quarterback Kedon Slovis for his NFL debut.
Slovis started at USC from 2019-2021. In 2019, he was named the Pac-12 Freshman of the Year, and in 2020, he was the conference’s offensive player of the year. His 515 passing yards against UCLA in 2019 are a single-game program record.
Following the arrival of head coach Lincoln Riley and quarterback Caleb Williams to USC from Oklahoma ahead of the 2022 season, Slovis transferred to Pitt, where he played one season before concluding his college football career at BYU. He was not selected in the 2024 NFL Draft, but has spent time on the practice squads of the Indianapolis Colts, Houston Texans, and Cardinals.
With starting quarterback Kyler Murray injured, Arizona signed Slovis to its active roster. On Sunday, he made his league debut, throwing an incompletion on his only pass attempt of the day.
USC fans can certainly be happy to see Slovis make it to the NFL. While his time at USC did not end as planned with the disastrous 2021 season and the firing of former head coach Clay Helton, his first two years in Cardinal and Gold provided fans with numerous positive memories in an otherwise forgettable era of USC football.
