GREEN BAY — Kicker Brandon McManus being added as doubtful might’ve been the biggest news about the Green Bay Packers updating their injury report on Saturday, but it wasn’t the only addition the team made to the report before traveling east.

The Packers also announced that wide receiver Malik Heath has been ruled out for the game, citing a “coach’s decision” and adding that Heath was not traveling with the team for Sunday’s matchup with the New York Giants at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, N.J.

The team did not provide any further details as to why Heath had been ruled out or why he was being kept home, and head coach Matt LaFleur does not speak to reporters on Saturdays leading into Sunday games.

Generally speaking, when a head coach decides not to have a player travel with the team, it is a disciplinary issue. LaFleur will almost certainly be asked about the decision to leave Heath behind in Green Bay when he addresses reporters after Sunday’s game.

With rookie first-round pick Matthew Golden inactive because of a shoulder injury, the Packers dressed five wide receivers (Christian Watson, Romeo Doubs, Dontayvion Wicks, Savion Williams and Heath) and one former wide receiver-turned-cornerback (Bo Melton) for Monday night’s 10-7 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles.

Of the Packers’ 68 offensive snaps, Watson played 56, Doubs played 42 before departing with a chest injury, Melton played 26, Heath played 20 and Williams played six.

After being on the injury report earlier in the week, Watson (knee/hamstring), Doubs (chest) and Wicks (calf) were all removed from the injury report on Friday, meaning they will play. Golden (shoulder) and Williams (foot) are listed as questionable for the game.

If Golden and Williams do play and Melton, who has begun splitting practice time between the defense and the offense, is again going to see game action on offense, Heath might have been a healthy scratch for Sunday’s game.

For the season, Heath, one of the Packers’ most tenacious blockers at receiver, has caught six passes for 86 yards while playing 188 of the Packers’ 578 offensive snaps (32.53%).
