Did you know that Justin Herbert has a younger brother?
Did you know that Justin Herbert has a younger brother who plays football?
And did you know that the very same younger brother plays football for the Jacksonville Jaguars, who Justin’s Los Angeles Chargers play this Sunday?
Meet Patrick Herbert, 25, who plays tight end and was on the Oregon Ducks from 2019 until graduating in 2024. If you haven’t heard of Patrick, it’s understandable, as during his time in Eugene, he battled injuries and started only six games in his final year. He ended his career with the Ducks, scoring four touchdowns and bringing in 388 total yards.
A block-first tight end, Patrick wasn’t selected in the 2025 NFL Draft but was signed as an undrafted free agent by the Jacksonville Jaguars in the offseason. Although the team cut him at the end of August, he re-signed with the team to play on the practice squad for the 2026 season.
On facing his older brother, it’s a special moment for the two.
“It’s awesome,” said Patrick in a locker room interview in preparation for the game. “I think we kinda take it for granted sometimes, looking at him and being like, ‘Oh, he’s been in the league for 5-6 years’ or whatever. I think it’s a big accomplishment.”
Although unlikely to be activated or play on Sunday, Patrick is with an organization that has haunted Justin and the Chargers in the past. In the 2022 playoffs, the Jaguars and Trevor Lawrence mounted a ridiculous comeback to come from behind to knock Justin Herbert out of the playoffs in the worst loss of his career.
“Where was I? Probably in my basement watching with my friends,” Patrick said. “I don’t remember exactly, but I remember that game.”
And so does Justin, as he will look to exact some revenge on the Jaguars and get bragging rights during Thanksgiving over his brother on Sunday.
