Well, that week lived up to the hype.
There were four matchups that most people had circled, and none of them disappointed.
The battles between the AFC West and NFC West’s best were nearly identical one-score games, while there was no shortage of fireworks in Upstate New York.
It all culminated with a defensive showcase on “Sunday Night Football” between the Philadelphia Eagles and Detroit Lions.
Here is where the 49ers sit in the latest NFL power rankings heading into “Monday Night Football” after their 41-22 win over the Arizona Cardinals at State Farm Stadium:
32. Tennessee Titans (Last week: 32)
Record: 1-9
The Cam Ward Experience hasn’t gotten much better 10 games into the season, which means Tennessee will be in position to repeat its mistake again in the spring. Will it?
31. New York Giants (Last week: 31)
Record: 2-9
I love a little Jameis Winston cameo, but that’s all it should be. No more than one week, please.
30. New York Jets (Last week: 29)
Record: 2-8
Justin Fields at least can make things interesting. Most of the time it’s either in a good way or a horribly wrong way. On Thursday night, it was somewhere in between.
29. New Orleans Saints (Last week: 30)
Record: 2-8
(Bye week)
28. Cleveland Browns (Last week: 27)
Record: 2-8
We finally got Shedeur Sanders snaps. He completed 25 percent of his passes and threw a pick. So that’s how that went …
27. Las Vegas Raiders (Last week: 28)
Record: 2-7
(Monday Night Football)
26. Washington Commanders (Last week: 26)
Record: 3-8
That industry plant Jacory Croskey-Merritt probably just lost his job to Chris Rodriguez. Don’t let the NFL community pull the wool over your eyes like that again.
25. Cincinnati Bengals (Last week: 24)
Record: 3-7
Joe Burrow, rest now, brother. This team isn’t worth coming back for. We’ll see you in Valhalla.
24. Arizona Cardinals (Last week: 23)
Record: 3-7
Undisciplined, to put it lightly. In all three phases of the game. Just a hideous performance from everyone involved. I hope Kyler Murray’s enjoying Black Ops 7.
23. Miami Dolphins (Last week: 25)
Record: 4-7
De’Von Achane still is that guy no matter what country he’s playing in. The heart and soul of Miami’s offense carried them to an international win.
22. Atlanta Falcons (Last week: 22)
Record: 3-7
Bijan Robinson and Drake London showed up. As did Michael Penix Jr. before the injury. Kirk Cousins couldn’t deliver in OT.
21. Minnesota Vikings (Last week: 20)
Record: 4-6
J.J. McCarthy continues to be a tough watch. How much of a grace period are we giving him? Or is it already over? Either way, Minnesota should be regretting letting their previous quarterback walk.
20. Dallas Cowboys (Last week: 21)
Record: 3-5-1
(Monday Night Football)
19. Houston Texans (Last week: 19)
Record: 5-5
Consecutive wins with Davis Mills, thanks to that great defense. Houston’s going to be in a dogfight for that final Wild Card spot, and I don’t think they’ll get it.
18. Carolina Panthers (Last week: 18)
Record: 6-5
Holy crap, Bryce Young. The best game of his career in an overtime win. And he did it with his two highly drafted receivers. Perhaps there’s something there?
17. Jacksonville Jaguars (Last week: 17)
Record: 6-4
Bhayshul Tutan and Travis Etienne took care of business on the ground to the tune of 147 combined yards and three touchdowns. That needs to be Jacksonville’s recipe for success.
16. Baltimore Ravens (Last week: 16)
Record: 5-5
A rare dud from Lamar Jackson, but Derrick Henry still carried the load. Baltimore’s back to .500 and amazingly just one back of the division lead. It’s inevitable at this point.
15. Pittsburgh Steelers (Last week: 15)
Record: 6-4
It’s not often you have a Mason Rudolph sighting in a win, but when the defense provides two scores almost anything is possible.
14. Kansas City Chiefs (Last week: 11)
Record: 5-5
This loss all but guaranteed the Chiefs won’t be winning the division. And for them, that’s just fine. Let them in as a wild card and watch what happens.
13. Tampa Bay Buccaneers (Last week: 10)
Record: 6-4
Baker Mayfield looked human, and when you’re facing a super human on the other side of the field, that’s not going to cut it.
12. San Francisco 49ers (Last week: 14)
Record: 7-4
The offense was humming in Brock Purdy’s return. Christian McCaffrey scored three times. The defense doubled its season total in interceptions. Just a breeze from start to finish. There should be more of this in the coming weeks.
11. Green Bay Packers (Last week: 12)
Record: 6-3-1
Oh, just what Jordan Love needs, another injured play-maker. If Josh Jacobs misses time, I don’t know how this offense will function.
10. Los Angeles Chargers (Last week: 9)
Record: 7-4
A pretty gross display of offense, and rather concerning moving forward. We’ve seen cracks in the foundation at times, but this was shockingly bad.
9. Chicago Bears (Last week: 13)
Record: 7-3
Chicago not only could have its first 4,000-yard passer, but actually could make the playoffs. We’ve had a large enough sample size. They’re pretty good.
8. Detroit Lions (Last week: 5)
Record: 6-4
You cannot play one-dimensional against the champs, and unfortunately for Detroit, the most lethal part of its offense was shut down on Sunday night. The defense deserves its flowers in the loss.
7. Seattle Seahawks (Last week: 6)
Record: 7-3
Sam Darnold is fascinating. One week he can look like an MVP and the next he looks like the version of himself that was haunted with the Jets.
6. Buffalo Bills (Last week: 8)
Record: 7-3
Sometimes Josh Allen has these games where you wonder if he’s from this planet. SIX total touchdowns. Good grief, man.
5. Denver Broncos (Last week: 7)
Record: 9-2
This defense can win a championship. Can Denver’s offense show up consistently enough to balance it out? Wil Lutz did on Sunday.
4. Indianapolis Colts (Last week: 3)
Record: 8-2
(Bye Week)
3. Los Angeles Rams (Last week: 4)
Record: 8-2
A quieter day for Matthew Stafford and the offense, but when the opposing team’s quarterback throws four picks you don’t have to do much. Rams are all alone atop the West.
2. Philadelphia Eagles (Last week: 1)
Record: 8-2
Perhaps the best defense in football? They made the best offense in the league look inept, so I say that’s a pretty strong argument in favor. This unit is on a whole different level since the trade deadline.
1. New England Patriots (Last week: 2)
Record: 9-2
TreVeyon Henderson solidified his breakout with a three-touchdown game. He’s RB1 and Drake Maye’s best weapon moving forward.
