The San Francisco 49ers found themselves on the outside looking in at the playoffs after their 41-22 win over the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday, but they didn’t sit outside for long.
San Francisco moved into the No. 7 seed in the postseason picture at the conclusion of Sunday Night Football where the Philadelphia Eagles knocked off the Detroit Lions 16-9 in Philadelphia. The Lions loss moved them out of the playoffs for now, and opened a spot for the 49ers to slide in.
Here’s what the top seven seeds in the NFC look like at the conclusion of Sunday’s action:
Philadelphia Eagles (8-2)Los Angeles Rams (8-2)Chicago Bears (7-3)Tampa Bay Buccaneers (6-4)Seattle Seahawks (7-3)Green Bay Packers (6-3-1)San Francisco 49ers (7-4)
Detroit is just a half game behind San Francisco at 6-4, but what matters most to the 49ers for Week 12 is the No. 9 seed Carolina Panthers who are one game behind them at 6-5 after Week 11. The 49ers and Panthers square off at Levi’s Stadium on Monday night to close out Week 12. If the 49ers win that game it gives them extra distance and a tiebreaker over the Panthers.
It’s that time of year where the playoff picture really starts to matter, and we’ll be keeping a close eye on it the rest of the way.
