Carolina Panthers quarterback Bryce Young was due, maybe in the worst way, for a productive performance here in Week 11. He entered Sunday in quite a slump, having thrown for a measly 364 yards between his previous three outings combined.
But he surpassed all of that with just one clutch showing this afternoon.
Here are our studs and duds from the Panthers’ 30-27 win over the Atlanta Falcons:
Stud: QB Bryce Young
Of course he’s kicking this off after that lead-in.
Young, who connected with nine different pass catchers on the day, completed 31 of his 45 attempts for 448 yards and three touchdowns. His 448 yards are not only a new career-high, but also a new single-game franchise record—topping Cam Newton’s 432-yard output from 2011.
Dud: RB Rico Dowdle
Perhaps it’s the quad injury or maybe it’s fatigue from handling a huge workload, but Dowdle was bottled up again.
He rushed for just 45 yards on 19 carries.
Stud: WR Tetairoa McMillan
McMillan was one of the many receivers Young dialed up. He registered a career-high 130 receiving yards and two touchdowns on eight catches.
Stud: WR Xavier Legette
Legette deserves some props after a zero-catch game last week. The second-year wideout recorded a huge 22-yard reception on a fourth-and-2 in the first quarter and a 36-yard touchdown grab in the third.
He finished as the team’s second-leading receiver at 83 yards on four catches.
Dud: RG Chandler Zavala
Zavala’s struggles led to Young injuring his ankle on two separate occasions. One came after he missed on a nickel blitz and the other came when he stepped on Young’s foot on a fourth-and-1 late in the fourth quarter.
Stud: Second-half defense
It appeared as though the Panthers defense was in their 2024 form early, allowing Falcons running back Bijan Robinson to rush for 93 yards and two touchdowns on 16 carries in the first half.
But they tightened up, limiting the Atlanta star to just 11 yards in the second half. They also, after allowing three touchdowns in that first half, let up just six points on two field goals to close out the win.
