Ravens Reaction: Team reaches .500 with eyes set on AFC North division

The Ravens’ win over the Browns on Sunday was an important step toward the goal of winning the AFC North and overcoming their poor start to the season. They improved to 2-0 in the division, won a tough game on the road and were able to overcome costly mistakes, something they were not able to do during the first part of the season. A strong defensive performance and a great play call on Mark Andrews’ fake tush push set up the team for a win and have put them in a position to complete the season turnaround. The 35-yard touchdown run was the talk of the locker room after the game, with players and coaches admiring the play called “Hurricane.””I was excited. It was a good call. We talked about calling that if we got inside of one (yard of a first down). If we weren’t inside of 1 (yard to go), we weren’t going to go for it,” head coach John Harbaugh said. “It was so beautifully executed. When you see it — and ‘a good idea has many fathers’ — but when you see it executed well, that’s what makes it a good idea. That’s what I’m probably most proud of.””It’s cool to see the offense having plays off of plays like that in critical situations. You see so much about the tush push these days. Last week, (he) pitched it to Lamar (Jackson), and this week, kind of the, whatever you want to call it, it’s pretty cool when it comes together, and it works. And just respect to the offense for winning the game right there,” Ravens safety Kyle Hamilton said. The Andrews play overshadowed an offense that continues to have trouble finishing drives with touchdowns. They were 1-4 scoring a touchdown from inside the 20-yard line and were dominated in the trenches on several short-yardage situations. They also gave up five sacks, four of them to Myles Garrett.”This type of defense is going to create chaos. They want to hit receivers knock them off their routes and stuff like that. And then, they zone coverage with a guy like Myles Garrett pressuring, so you don’t want to just throw it up and cause a turnover,” Jackson said. “But he just kept tracing, so that’s how, why he was getting sacks.”The Ravens’ defense was led by Hamilton, who, after a quiet first half, finished strong by leading the team in tackles. He also had a sack of Browns quarterback Shedeur Sanders, who made his NFL debut in the second half. The defense also picked off Sanders in the third quarter but would give the ball right back on an interception of its own. “I was confused when the crowd was going crazy, but then I saw Shedeur (Sanders) come in. There weren’t really too many adjustments; we’re playing our game, trying to get off the field and get turnovers, which guys did today. I am super happy for Keyon Martin. (He got his) first sack today,” Hamilton said. It was a historic day for Andrews, who scored his first career rushing touchdown on the 35-yard fake tush push but also became the franchise’s all-time leader in receiving yards. He passed Derrick Mason for first place with 5,806 yards and will soon pass him for the all-time leader in catches. “I’m extremely thankful. Being drafted here eight years ago, it’s extremely humbling just to think about all the players, the coaches and this incredible organization that I’ve been able to play for. Without them, none of that’s possible. It’s been a lot of hard work, and I just think humility and gratitude is the main thing . I thank God just for allowing me to be in this position,” Andrews said.
