Ole Miss head coach Lane Kiffin has an apparent interest in the open jobs at Florida and LSU.

More News: Ole Miss Could Fire Lane Kiffin Before College Football Playoff

Per Pete Nakos of On3, members of Kiffin’s family have been spotted in Gainesville, Florida, and Baton Rouge, Louisiana, over the last two days.

The No. 7 Rebels defeated Florida 34-24 on Saturday. The student section of Ole Miss chanted “We Want Lane” as the team exited the field. However, Kiffin chose not to talk about his future with the Rebels during his postgame news conference.

Lane Kiffin sent a subtle message as rumors connect him to two SEC powers.

“I love what we’re doing here,” said Kiffin during his postgame news conference. “Today was awesome. To even talk about it right now would be so disrespectful to our players and what they did today.”

Per Stewart Mandel of The Athletic, Ole Miss has given Kiffin an ultimatum. The program expects him to make a decision before the Rebels finish the regular season in the “Egg Bowl” against 5-6 Mississippi State on Nov. 28.

“Ole Miss has given Lane Kiffin an ultimatum to decide his future before the Nov. 28 Egg Bowl against Mississippi State, a person briefed on the discussions told The Athletic,” Mandel wrote. “The person briefed on the discussions did not say what would happen if Kiffin remains uncommitted prior to the Egg Bowl.”

Ole Miss is in a good position not only to reach the College Football Playoff but to earn a first-round bye. The Rebels have a chance of making the SEC championship.

Rebels athletic director Keith Carter has a couple of options to pursue if he doesn’t make good on the ultimatum. Ole Miss could suspend Kiffin with pay for the CFP. The program could fire the head coach before the CFP.

In 2008, the Oakland Raiders fired Kiffin “for cause”, meaning the Raiders did not have to pay him the remainder of his contract. One of the reasons the Raiders cited for firing Kiffin was a lack of concern for his contract with Oakland.

Kiffin filed a grievance to recover the lost pay, but an NFL arbitrator ruled in favor of the Raiders.

College football analyst Josh Pate recently suggested Ole Miss could name defensive coordinator Pete Golding as the interim head coach for the postseason.

Ole Miss is on its bye in Week 13. Kiffin could silence the rumors by signing a contract extension with the Rebels this week.
