Brock Purdy looked like his normal self in his return from injury for the 49ers on Sunday.

San Francisco’s signal-caller, after missing the previous six games with a turf toe injury, returned to his QB1 role in the team’s 41-22 win over the Arizona Cardinals at State Farm Stadium and continued to etch his name in the NFL record books.

Purdy completed 19 of 26 passes for 200 yards with three touchdowns through the air for a 133.5 passer rating. Sunday’s game marked the 11th time in Purdy’s career that he posted a passer rating of at least 130.0, which is the most by an NFL quarterback through his first four seasons since at least 1970. “He was vintage Brock,” 49ers running back Christian McCaffrey said of Purdy postgame. “And that’s a huge compliment. He was poised, made some great plays, made some huge third-down throws, kept us in the game, was smart the whole game … It’s really hard to come back in the middle of the year, and I think people kind of just watch like, ‘Oh, he had a good game, whatever.’ But to be out that long and to come in and do what he did today is extremely impressive.”

Purdy burst onto the scene in 2022 after he was selected with the final pick of the draft that year, leading the 49ers to NFC Championship Game and Super Bowl appearances in his first two seasons before a disappointing 2024 NFL campaign.

San Francisco then signed its franchise quarterback to a massive five-year, $265 million contract extension in the spring before he eventually suffered the nagging toe injury in the 49ers’ Week 1 win over the Seattle Seahawks.

Now healthy, Purdy is back to doing what he does best while making history along the way.
