DETROIT – The Detroit Lions were called for a controversial pass interference call on the final possession of their loss to the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday Night Football.
The Eagles faced a third and 8 from their own 37-yard line with 1:51 left on the clock. The Lions were down 16-9 with one timeout remaining.

Jalen Hurts threw an incomplete pass toward A.J. Brown that would have given the Lions one more possession to try to tie the game or even win it with a two-point conversion.
Instead, defensive back Rock Ya-Sin was called for pass interference, giving the Eagles an automatic first down and effectively ending the game.
Replay didn’t show much contact from Ya-Sin, and even the Sunday Night Football commentators thought it was a bit of a weak call.
Here’s what referee Alex Kemp told the pool reporter about that call after the game:
The official observed the receiver’s arm getting grabbed and restricting him from going up to make the catch. So, the ball was in the air, there was a grab at the arm, restricted him and he called defensive pass interference.

Lions fans were frustrated by the call, but the general consensus is that the offense likely wouldn’t have driven down the field for a touchdown anyway.
The Lions mustered only one touchdown on the night. They finished with 317 total yards while going 3-for-13 on third down and 0-for-5 on fourth down.
Jared Goff completed just 14 of 37 passes for 255 yards, a score, and a pick.
