Hello, happy Tuesday, and welcome back to the 10 best things I saw in high school recruiting. Each week, we’re tracking the top plays and moments from recruits everywhere as their high school seasons continue to press on. This week, the playoffs are here, and recruits are upping the ante.
Without further ado …
10. Four-star Texas A&M commit Aaron Gregory might be a wide receiver, but he isn’t afraid to get in on the action defensively. Check out this hit in Douglas County (Ga.) High’s 37-14 playoff win against Lambert on Friday. Aggies coach Mike Elko has to love this.

9. Like father, like son? This is four-star Notre Dame wide receiver commit Devin Fitzgerald, the son of former NFL star Larry Fitzgerald. Devin was able to slip by his defender and make this 51-yard touchdown reception look easy. Fitzgerald, who plays at Brophy College Prep in Phoenix, finished with six catches for 110 yards and one TD as the Broncos beat Casteel High in Queens Creek, 51-42, and are now bound for the second round of the playoffs against Chandler. For the season, Fitzgerald is closing in on the 1,000-yard receiving mark with 68 catches for 977 yards and 11 touchdowns.
DEEP BOMB 💣

8. It was a tough weekend for Alabama, with the Crimson Tide losing to Oklahoma and rushing for just 80 yards. Kalen DeBoer’s team has struggled with the run game this year; Alabama ranks 123rd nationally in rushing and has finished with fewer than 100 yards in its last two games. Five-star Crimson Tide commit Ezavier Crowell should help with that. Crowell continues to dominate for Jackson (Ala.) High and went off in the second round of the playoffs with 14 carries for 350 yards and four touchdowns. He’s now up to 2,023 yards and 24 touchdowns on 148 carries for the season. DeBoer is surely counting down the days until Crowell enrolls at Alabama.
Alabama running back commit Ezavier Crowell dominated a competitive playoff game last night: ~350 yards, 4 TD. Vision, burst, contact balance. Will be the best RB prospect to sign with the Crimson Tide since Najee Harris https://t.co/xeJSfL7JnD pic.twitter.com/rvHfzGmFiH

7. Four-star USC receiver commit Ethan “Boobie” Feaster was amused when he learned he wasn’t a five-star in Rivals’ updated rankings this week. But he sounded confident he’d prove evaluators wrong at the next level — and he just might. The DeSoto (Texas) High star had five catches for 101 yards and one score in the first round of the Conference 6A D2 Texas playoffs last week and is up to 57 catches for 1,163 yards and 12 touchdowns for the season. His speed and ability to work through contact should serve him well with the Trojans.

6. Meet unranked running back Myles McLaughlin, whose stat line is so gaudy, it almost looks like a typo. The Class of 2026 prospect out of Knox (Ind.) High has rushed for 4,768 rushing yards and 71 touchdowns on 462 carries … this season alone. Friday night in Knox’s 28-21 win against Angola, he had 53 carries (!) for 372 yards (!) and four touchdowns. This, just two weeks after he had 54 carries for 410 yards and six touchdowns in a win against Griffith.
McLaughlin has rushed for at least 400 yards in a game five times this season and has gone for 300-plus on 10 occasions. He has only three Division I offers at the moment: from Murray State, Ball State and Valparaiso. But he is just 364 yards away — “just 364” being a manageable feat for him — from surpassing Derrick Henry as the nation’s all-time leader in career high school rushing yards. Oh, and he’s already the nation’s leader for rushing yards in a single season. He’ll have a shot at breaking Henry’s record in the semifinals of the Indiana Class 3A state championships this week.

5. What can’t five-star Georgia quarterback commit Jared Curtis do? In Nashville Christian’s 42-14 win against Jackson Christian School in the second round of the Division II Class A Tennessee playoffs, the Eagles pulled out some trickery when Curtis received the snap but handed the ball off and took off toward the end zone. Wide receiver Javin Drewelow then flipped the ball to wide receiver Tate Mathis, who found Curtis downfield. The 6-foot-4, 225-pound Curtis climbed the ladder and came down with the first catch of his career. Of course, it was a touchdown as he leaped into the air and showed off his athleticism. Nashville Christian improved to 11-0.

4. Here’s something you don’t see often (or ever). There were three consecutive kickoff returns for touchdowns in the third quarter of a playoff game between Jesuit High near Sacramento, Calif., and Saint Mary’s out of Stockton, Calif. The first came from Jesuit’s Stevie Hughes, an unranked prospect with no recruiting profile on any of the major services. The second was by Saint Mary’s Kenneth Moore III, a three-star UCLA wide receiver commit. And the third came from Ryan Reeves, another unranked senior out of Jesuit. Call it poor special teams tackling, elite playmaking or some combination of both, but it was entertaining nonetheless. Saint Mary’s went on to win 64-55.
Have you ever seen this before? Three straight kickoff returns in a wild California playoff game.

3. Speaking of unusual things in California, how about this development out of the CIF Southern Section Football Championships? In one of the biggest upsets in the country, Orange Lutheran, which entered the game with a 2-8 record, shocked perennial powerhouse St. John Bosco (9-1) 20-19. Orange Lutheran senior running back Sean Morris Jr. rushed for 121 yards on 21 carries, and the Lancers got some big defensive stops in crunch time en route to the upset. St. John Bosco also missed 2 extra points. This pick six was a critical turning point early in the fourth quarter.
Wild pick-six by King Rich Johnson to extend the lead for Orange Lutheran🔥😱

2. Welcome back, Faizon Brandon. The five-star Tennessee commit was back in action Friday for the first time since Week 1, when he injured the thumb on his throwing hand. He showed no signs of rust, launching a touchdown on his very first play back as Greensboro (N.C.) Grimsley opened the playoffs against West Cabarrus. Brandon completed 12 of 14 for 227 yards and three touchdowns in the first half alone and looked every bit the part of his five-star rating. There’s a reason Vols fans everywhere are eagerly awaiting his arrival in Knoxville.

1. If you’ve been following this series, you know that 2025 has been the year of epic interceptions, and this one is no exception. Check out this spectacular one-handed pick from three-star Utah commit Kennan Pula out of Lone Peak High in American Fork, Utah. Pula, a three-star, and his twin, Jaron, a four-star, are wide receivers and headed to the Utes after decommitting from UCLA in June. If this is Pula on defense, imagine what he can do for coach Kyle Whittingham’s crew on offense. This video already has nearly 2 million views and has caught the attention of Dez Bryant and Randy Moss. Well done, Kennan.
