Did glove cause Detroit Lions’ Jared Goff to struggle vs. Eagles? Dan Campbell responds

  • November 18, 2025

DETROIT – Did Detroit Lions quarterback Jared Goff struggle against the Eagles because he was wearing a glove on his throwing hand?

It’s a debate that wages on social media every time Goff has a bad game in the cold: Is it because of the glove?

Fans were back at it during the Sunday Night Football loss to the Philadelphia Eagles, as Goff went 14-for-37 and the offense mustered only nine points.

On Tuesday morning, Lions head coach Dan Campbell was asked about Goff’s struggles during his weekly interview with Jon Jansen and Jim Costa on 97.1 The Ticket’s “Costa & Jansen with Heather.”

“Goff had some issues with accuracy,” Costa said. “How would you diagnose what happened? Was he getting rattled? I know he’s played with the glove before — was that giving him any issues? What did you see?”

Campbell immediately dismissed the glove as a factor.

“No, listen, he’s played with the glove plenty,” Campbell said. “I mean, that thing — it, sometimes it’s just one of those games. It’s just one of those games, and things are just a little bit off.”

Campbell said the Lions were just a little bit off in a lot of different areas, and that exacerbated Goff’s bad night.

“Sometimes if things aren’t on with one player or another, the other players can pick up the slack a little bit and maybe it goes unnoticed or the play still gets made and we’re all excited because the play was made and it was a huge play,” Campbell said.

“But when everything is just off a little bit — from that to the pressures that are there or the precision of the routes, the depth, the technique, all of these, to my play calls — then, man, it doesn’t help. It doesn’t help, and it becomes the perfect storm. We were a little off and just couldn’t ever really find it, find that true balance, and that was it.”

The end result was a 16-9 loss, even though the Lions defense only allowed 272 total yards while consistently being backed up against short fields.

“At the end of the day, we didn’t play our best ball on offense — we had a chance to win that game,” Campbell said. “That’s what’s encouraging.”
