The play of Baker Mayfield may not be getting MVP discussions anymore, but he is playing well above most quarterbacks around the league. The former number one overall pick remains at home in Tampa Bay and has shown he can be the rising tide that raises all ships in The Bay.
Of course, with a new week’s performance under his belt, there is time to reflect. One person doing that is Bleacher Report’s Brent Sobleski, as he has dropped a new batch of quarterback grades for the new week of games.
The former Heisman Trophy winner who now plays for the Bucs earned himself a favorable B-, but there, of course, was room for improvement.
He explains, “Baker Mayfield has taken the field and faced down two elite quarterbacks during back-to-back weeks. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers QB came up on the short end in both contests, though. Mayfield didn’t play poorly in either meeting, yet he didn’t provide enough to help a Buccaneers squad that surrendered over 800 yards of offense during the aforementioned stretch. . .Tampa Bay has lost three of its last four, and the upcoming contest against Matthew Stafford and the Los Angeles Rams won’t be any easier. Mayfield continues to say he could do more. He absolutely could, as evidenced by a poor interception against the Bills. At the same time, the Bucs must play complementary football to have a chance against top-notch competition.”
Whenever a team is able to score 32 points in the NFL, the play of the quarterback is usually spot on. That being said, there were some moments where Mayfield had some chances to make plays, and he missed one way or another. Things won’t be getting any easier as the team is set to play his old team, the Los Angeles Rams, in Week 12.
It will be a stiff test, but one for him to earn an even more favorable grade.
