Vic Fangio’s Eagles defense continues to receive acclaim from members of the national media.

This may be an old saying. It may not be. If it isn’t, we’re taking the credit. If you want to do something and have it stick, try to do it on television. We’ve long known how great Vic Fangio is. We’ve seen how great his defense is when it’s clicking. Never will we ever forget the beatdown the Philadelphia Eagles put on the two-time defending-champion Kansas City Chiefs.
Every iteration of this team has its own story, and the story of the 2025 Eagles began with a mass exodus in free agency. Key pieces from last season included Josh Sweat, Milton Williams, Darius Slay, Isaiah Rodgers, C.J. Gardner-Johnson, Avonte Maddox, and Oren Burks. They all play on other rosters.
We’ve had to watch Philadelphia juggle injuries. Nolan Smith and Nakobe Dean missed significant time with injuries. There were also new faces. We’re still learning rookie draftees like Jihaad Campbell, Andrew Mukuba, Ty Robinson, Smael Mondon, and Mac McWilliams. Free agency and trades brought guys like Jaelan Phillips, Adoree’ Jackson, and Jakorian Bennett.
Each player has their own role. The great chef Vic Fangio has whipped together the ultimate soufflé, a unit that no offensive coordinator looks forward to seeing on the upcoming schedule.
The Eagles’ defense continues to garner national attention.
It has been more than nine months since the Eagles annihilated the Chiefs in Super Bowl LIX. That’s the length of a full-term pregnancy, and the Eagles are birthing something special in Philadelphia.
The national audience got to see that again, as Philadelphia has been featured in primetime twice in as many weeks. The defense befuddled Matt LaFleur, Jordan Love, and the Green Bay Packers before confusing and embarrassing Dan Campbell, Jared Goff, and the high-powered Detroit Lions.
That didn’t go unnoticed by the national media, which has been raving about how special this Vic Fangio unit could become.
“This defense is by far the best and most intimidating defense in league. Because of this defense, [the Eagles] are definitely the best team.”@RealSkipBayless praises the Eagles defense for keeping them competitive and winning games. pic.twitter.com/zhsUUCR5SQ

Much of the defensive core is young. Guys like Quinyon Mitchell, Jalen Carter, Cooper DeJean, Nolan Smith, and Jordan Davis will be together for a while. We’ll see what happens with guys like Nakobe Dean and Reed Blankenship.
Zack Baun is so good. Jihaad Campbell can do it all, but how does Philadelphia let Dean walk with instincts like those? You won’t find a better leader. This is a special unit, and get this. They can still be even better than they are right now.
