Wil Lutz is arguably the biggest reason why the Denver Broncos took down the Kansas City Chiefs at home this past week. The 10th-year veteran made all five of his field goals and an extra point, highlighted by the game-winner than split the uprights as time expired to give Denver the win.

Lutz’s outstanding performance earned him AFC Special Teams Player of the Week honors for the seventh time in his career, third as a Denver Bronco.

In a game where red zone offense was hard to come by, having a security blanket in Lutz proved to be a difference maker. Even though three points aren’t as good as seven down in that area of the field, three points is better than none, and Lutz made sure that Denver came away with points every time they had an opportunity to on Sunday.
Lutz’s five field goals were from 24, 29, 35, 38 and 54. While all the spotlight was put on the 35-yarder that he nailed as time expired to launch the Broncos into total control of the AFC West, that kick wouldn’t have been possible without the 54-yarder he hit just a few minutes prior.

He also reached the 1,100-point career milestone with 16 points in Sunday’s win, becoming the fourth-fastest kicker to hit that mark (142 career games).
This comes just a few weeks after Lutz was named as the AFC Special Teams player of the Month for October after he didn’t miss a kick all month long. His importance to this Broncos team has been vital.
This is the fourth time that a Broncos kicker has won the award, as Jason Elam, Matt Prater and Brandon McManus all did so in the past. This is the third time this season that a Bronco has won a Player of the Week Award after Nik Bonitto and Jonathon Cooper did so in back-to-back weeks earlier in the season.
