After a weekslong absence from the team, Kansas City Chiefs left tackle Josh Simmons made his return Sunday against the Denver Broncos. Now, he says his goal is simply to win. Simmons spoke to reporters on Wednesday after his first game back, and he began by expressing his appreciation for the support he received while he was away. “First off, I want to thank the entire Kansas City and this club for having my six for the time I was away from the team,” Simmons said. “It showed how much love this team and city has for me, and I can’t wait to give it back to ‘em.”Simmons was first listed as out for a personal reason on Oct. 12. He missed four games before returning to the field Sunday in the Chiefs’ 22-19 loss to the Broncos. Coaches and teammates shared very little about Simmons’ absence while he was gone, with head coach Andy Reid once saying that Simmons was “taking care of family.”After sharing his gratitude for the support he received, Simmons respectfully declined to provide more details, opting to keep his situation private. But he did share that he had teammates frequently checking in on him and support from his family. “Family is the biggest thing, as you know, Polynesians lean on, so when you get in that, it just makes everything a lot better,” Simmons said. He didn’t let any rust build up while he was away; Simmons said he worked out and studied his playbook, preparing for his return. In his first game back, he felt ready to go. “Wherever I was, I was making sure I was watching the game, tuning in,” Simmons said. “There’s always room (for improvement), but I think as a front we swung as hard as we could.”As for the rest of the season? Expect to see Simmons on the field. “Absolutely, I will be here for the rest of the season with the Kansas City Chiefs,” he said.
