The Philadelphia Eagles are the defending Super Bowl champions, but their roster is not the same as it was when they defeated the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl 59. Their defense has been depleted by trades and free agency. However, their offense remains explosive, with Jalen Hurts under center and Saquon Barkley running the ball 30 times a game.
Despite the roster turnover, the Eagles are still considered one of the best teams in the NFL, according to most every observer. And they do so as they feature an elite wide receiver duo in A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith, who last year – in a so-called “non-passing” offense – combined for 1,912 yards and 15 touchdowns.

However, there are those who think the Eagles are still searching for a reliable third receiver … and as we know, they did not address the position with any of their 10 NFL Draft selections.
Enter a website that offers up quite a reach … with the belief that a wide receiver from the NFC South could solve Philadelphia’s WR3 search in the form of New Orleans Saints wideout Chris Olave.
Let’s be clear: Olave as a WR3 would be magnificent. But how does this happen?
With the Saints entering a murky 2025 season and the recent hiring of former Eagles offensive coordinator Kellen Moore as their head coach, a potential trade could in theory be on the table.

But amid the speculation, we can’t figure out why “murky” is helped by the Saints giving up one of their few stars.
Olave, the 11th overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft, has dealt with injuries throughout his three-year career but remains one of the most dynamic young receivers in the league. He would likely welcome a fresh start on a Super Bowl-caliber team like the Eagles, especially given the chance to play alongside established stars like Brown and Smith.
But of course, he doesn’t get a vote.
Olave has posted consecutive 1,000-yard seasons to start his pro stint, including a career-high 1,123 yards and five touchdowns in 2023. However, he played in just eight games last season due to multiple concussions, raising questions about his durability.

For a team looking to defend their Super Bowl title, adding a player like Olave would send a clear message to the rest of the NFC that Philadelphia isn’t satisfied with just one championship. But the cost of acquiring him could be substantial, and some believe it’s not a move Howie Roseman needs to make.
While Eagles fans may salivate at the prospect of adding another weapon like Olave, questions about resource allocation remain. With defensive holes to fill and future contract extensions to consider, is a luxury addition at WR3 the right move for a defending champion?
That said, few general managers have shown the aggressive creativity of Howie Roseman, especially when it comes to maximizing championship windows. If there’s a GM willing to make a bold move, Philadelphia has him.
But this one would mean the Saints making a stupid move. And we don’t think they have this in them.
