New York Jets cornerback Kris Boyd is breathing on his own after being shot in the gut early Sunday morning outside a Manhattan eatery.
The 29-year-old NFL player shared the update Wednesday on his Instagram story, posting a smiling photo from his hospital bed.
“God is real, God is powerful!” he wrote.

“I’m sorry I have no words at the moment…Just grateful! I’m coming along, starting to breathe on my own now. Sincerely appreciate everyone!”
Boyd was out on the town with Gang Green linebacker Jamien Sherwood and wide receiver Irvin Charles at Sei Less Asian Fusion on West 38th Street early Sunday when a gang of troublemakers began making fun of their fancy duds, law enforcement sources said Monday.
As the athletes made for the exits around 2 a.m., a scuffle broke out on the street outside and shots were fired — with one slug striking Boyd in the abdomen as the crowd scrambled, the sources said.
Wild video from the scene posted on X by Crime_In_ NYC shows a mob of people in the street throwing punches when two shots ring out, sending everyone scrambling for cover.

Jets coach Aaron Glenn spoke with Boyd – who’s in his first season with New York after having brief one-year stints in Arizona and Houston – shortly after the shooting and said Wednesday that the player was in good spirits.
“That’s what eases my mind is that he’s in good spirits,” Glenn said. “His wife and his kid, they’re in good spirits and he’ll walk away from this just fine.”

The coach said his initial thoughts after the shooting were about Boyd’s family.
“Once I heard about the situation, the first thing I thought about was he just had a kid,” Glenn said.
“I’m thinking about his wife. I’m thinking about his kid. I want to make sure that he’s OK. That’s the only thing that really went through my mind. And anybody else that was involved, make sure those guys are OK.”
The Jets signed Boyd in the offseason to be a special teams contributor. He also plays cornerback.
The NYPD has not made an arrest in the shooting but released surveillance camera photos of the suspected gunman.
