NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) – The Tennessee Titans are struggling through a dismal 1-9 season, with their offense grappling with a significant identity crisis and consistently ranking at the bottom of the NFL in key statistical categories.
Through 10 games, the Titans’ offensive struggles are stark. The team ranks last in the NFL in total offense, rushing yards and points scored. Their passing game fares only slightly better, sitting at 30th in the league.
This lack of production has left the team searching for answers and a clear offensive direction.
“The identity of our offense, I still feel like we’re finding,” tight end Chigo Okonkwo said. “Honestly, at this point, I can’t tell you exactly what it is. Each week, the things we put on tape is not what we’re preaching, so I can’t say for example what exactly it is right now.”
Injuries have made continuity difficult, further exacerbating the team’s woes. Any glimmer of offensive growth has quickly ended in a stalemate; prior to a fourth-quarter touchdown to Van Jefferson against the Houston Texans, the team went seven consecutive quarters without an offensive touchdown.
Interim head coach Mike McCoy, echoed concerns about consistency.
“I think there’s been too many ups and downs to say, ‘Hey, there’s a couple of weeks there that you really—we ran the ball better than we have,’” McCoy said. “And then all of a sudden, this past week it’s not there. I think we need to be more consistent in all areas.”
While some, like quarterback Cam Ward, believe the team’s identity should be physicality, emphasizing it more on the perimeter, the immediate challenge remains steep. Ward and the Titans’ offense will have their hands full this Sunday when they face the Seattle Seahawks defense, which ranks sixth in total yards allowed this season.
