PITTSBURGH — After not activating him from injured reserve on Wednesday, the Pittsburgh Steelers officially have lost cornerback Cory Trice for the year. For defensive coordinator Teryl Austin, it is tough to see a player like Trice, who has so much talent, unable to stay healthy.

“Well, it’s really unfortunate and it stinks to see a guy like that get hurt,” Austin said. “Cory really works his tail off… Sometimes, there’s a lot of guys who are really capable and talented in this league that don’t make it in this league because of injuries…he’s already back to work plotting his next comeback.”

Trice suffered a knee injury in practice three weeks ago. He has not practiced since that moment, and the team did not activate him off injured reserve on Wednesday, thus ending his season.

rice has torn both of his ACLs over his career, including during his rookie season, which cost him that entire year. He was hoping to get back into the fold moving forward.

Trice suffered a hamstring injury during the season last year that forced him to miss half the season. He missed the entire 2023 season after tearing his ACL. At the NFL Combine, general manager Omar Khan said the team liked Trice, but could not trust him given his injury history.

“We really like Cory. The reality is that durability has been an issue and until durability is not an issue, you know, that’s a position that we, you know, we have to keep our eye on,” Khan said.

Trice was taking second-team reps and showing out once again, but his inability to stay healthy has forced him to miss far too much time for the Steelers to count on him.
