Carolina Panthers quarterback Bryce Young put on a performance for the ages this past Sunday, throwing for 448 yards and three touchdowns in a thrilling comeback victory over the Atlanta Falcons. Those 448 passing yards not only marked a career-high for the 2023 No. 1 overall pick, but also set a new single-game franchise record—besting Cam Newton’s 432-yard output in 2011.

So, perhaps it was only appropriate that Young would celebrate his heroics by breaking out Newton’s most famous dance move.

Yes, Young hit the Dab,” made popular by Newton during his Most Valuable Player campaign in 2015, in the locker room at Mercedes-Benz Stadium following the triumph. Newton has since reacted to Young’s record-breaking outing and his celebration, as shown in this week’s episode of 4th & 1 with Cam Newton.

Take a look:

And the admiration is, of course, mutual.

Young spoke with reporters on Thursday, and was asked if his “Dab” was an homage to Newton.

“I very much so appreciate that,” Young said of Newton’s praise. “They were playing the ‘Dab’ song, Migos song. So that’s where that came from.

“But, obviously, I have a ton of respect for Cam—for everything he meant to the team, the city, all the success he’s had, everything he’s doing now. I was a big fan of him growing up, continue to be a big fan—as long as he’d been playing and all the stuff he’s doing. So, yeah, that definitely means a lot.”

With the team at 6-5 and pushing for their first playoff berth since 2017, Young’s “Dab” might’ve been the most meaningful one Panthers fans have seen in quite some time.
