The Chicago Bears could get a massive boost to their secondary this week, as Jaylon Johnson, who has not played since Week 2 after having core muscle surgery, seems primed to return. He registered a full practice on Thursday and could play against the Pittsburgh Steelers.

The Bears also are without standout nickel cornerback Kyler Gordon, who has become a stalwart of their secondary. In their places, Tyrique Stevenson and Nahshon Wright have started. C.J. Gardner-Johnson has stepped in at the nickel cornerback position over the last few weeks.

Still, Johnson’s return could signal a big boost to a secondary and defense that needs its talent back on the football field. However, they will have just as many issues at inside linebacker.

Their top three inside linebackers, Noah Sewell, Tremaine Edmunds, and T.J. Edwards, all did not practice the first two days of the week. While that does not totally rule them out, it signals a likelihood that the Bears will be limited at inside linebacker this week and should instead focus on their defensive backfield, which is deep and could be part of their solution to the Steelers’ matchup.
