The Eagles have viewed the Dallas Cowboys as their rival dating back to 1967. That year, Cowboys linebacker Lee Roy Jordan used his elbow to hit Eagles running back Timmy Brown in the mouth, knocking out several teeth. Ahead of Sunday’s game at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, students at a Camden elementary school showed their own intensity, punching bags featuring the faces of Cowboys players.
During a television segment on Philadelphia television station Fox 29, students at Cooper’s Poynt Family School wore boxing gloves and hit punching bags that had the printed faces of several Cowboys players, including quarterback Dak Prescott, running back Javonte Williams and wide receivers CeeDee Lamb and KaVontae Turpin.
“I’m going to beat him up,” one student said before he started punching Turpin’s picture.
A few students continued to punch and stomp the pictures on the ground once they fell off the bag while smiling and laughing, enjoying their televised workout.
The Eagles are looking to duplicate a similar sort of passion Sunday. With an 8-2 record, the Eagles cannot clinch the NFC East with a win this week, but they could move one step closer to ending a streak of different division champions that has taken place since 2004.
The Cowboys (4-5-1) are looking to keep their postseason hopes alive. Prescott has a streak of his own, winning 17 straight home games that he has started against NFC East opponents. Prescott also has a 35-9 career record against the NFC East and has won nine of his 14 games against the Eagles.
The Eagles-Cowboys game will kick off at 4:25 p.m. EST.
