Packers WR Jayden Reed talks about his first practice since Week 2
Green Bay Packers receiver Jayden Reed is back to practice for the first time since having collarbone and foot surgeries. He talks about his recovery.
GREEN BAY −The three-week practice window for Green Bay Packers wide receiver Jayden Reed officially opened Nov. 21.
Reed was dressed out with the team going through the stretch period inside the Don Huston Center and then went outside to join the team in practice.
This marks Reed’s first time participating in team activities since dropping out in Week 2 against the Washington Commanders.
Reed posted on social media this week a photo of him in his Packers uniform. It didn’t include any text, but he added speculation he would return to practice. When asked about Reed on Nov. 19, Packers coach Matt LaFleur didn’t have a timeline and was waiting for him to be cleared by the medical staff. Reed said he found out officially Nov. 20 that he’d return to practice.
“I’m just following the protocol. That’s my job to do what I’m told and I’m here to do that,” Reed said on his return to playing. “I don’t know when I’ll be back. Hopefully it’s soon.”
Reed, who already was dealing with a fracture in his left foot since training camp, broke his collarbone on the Packers’ first drive against the Commanders while catching a long pass in the end zone. He had surgery five days later to repair his collarbone and foot.
He was off to a fast start to the 2025 season, opening the year with three catches for 45 yards and a touchdown against the Detroit Lions.
“It’s all God’s timing, man,” Reed said. “I wasn’t really disappointed. I was just excited for the next guy up because I know we’ve got a lot of playmakers in the room. I was just really excited for the next man. I think everything happens for a reason. It was God trying to tell me to help my foot out a little bit. That’s kind of how I took it.”
Reed can practice for 21 days without being added to the active roster and the team will have that time period to decide to active him from injured reserve. Whenever that time comes, Reed hopes he can be a key piece to this team contending for a Super Bowl.
“I think we got the full package,” Reed said of the offense. “In Savion (Williams) and Matthew (Golden), we’ve got the two best rookie receivers, in my opinion. We’ve got (Dontayvion) Wicks. No one can run routes like Wicks. Nobody can run like (Christian Watson). Nobody can catch like (Romeo Doubs). Nobody can make acrobatic plays like Malik (Heath). We’ve got so many playmakers, even Bo (Melton) coming off the other side of the ball, you can throw him in there and he can make a play.
“I’m just excited to see it all come together for this run we’ve got to make.”
Reed provided a boost in practice for a Packers team that had four players absent during their Nov. 21 practice.
Here’s the latest:
The Packers list Josh Jacobs (knee), Matthew Golden (shoulder/wrist), Savion Williams (foot), Dontayvion Wicks (calf), Karl Brooks (ankle) and Lukas Van Ness (foot) as questionable to play.
Quay Walker (neck) is doubtful, while Nate Hobbs (knee) and Jayden Reed (shoulder/foot) are ruled out of the game.
Josh Jacobs injury update
The game status for the Packers running back will come down to kickoff as he’s battled a knee injury suffered against the New York Giants.
Jacobs told reporters the swelling in his knee has improved and is confident he’ll play, if not against the Vikings on Nov. 23 then against the Detroit Lions on Thanksgiving Day.
“He’ll be limited, and we’ll see what he can do,” LaFleur said before Nov. 21 practice. “Just talking to him, he’s feeling pretty good.”
Lukas Van Ness injury update
The Packers defensive end has participated in practice for the last two weeks and could be nearing a return to game action for the first time since Week 6 against the Cincinnati Bengals.
Van Ness has battled a foot injury.
“That’s the goal,” LaFleur said of him playing. “We’ll see how he gets through today.”
Quay Walker injury update
The Packers linebacker missed practice all week due to a stinger, making it unlikely he’ll play against the Vikings.
Walker was spotted on the side riding a bike and doing a separate rehab assignment, during the portion of practice open to the media.
Karl Brooks injury update
The Packers defensive tackle has missed practice all week due to an ankle injury, potentially missing his first game this season.
Brooks has 17 total tackles (four solo) and a half sack this season.
Matthew Golden injury update
The Packers receiver completed a full week of practice, a positive sign for his game status.
Golden has been battling shoulder and wrist injuries as of late.
Savion Williams injury update
The Packers receiver and return specialist was not spotted with the team as they prepared for practice.
Williams, who’s battling a foot injury, didn’t practice Nov. 19, but returned Nov. 20 on a limited capacity.
Nate Hobbs injury update
The Packers cornerback will miss his third straight game as he’s been dealing with a knee injury.
