The New York Jets (2-8) are back on the road in Week 12 when they head to Baltimore to face Lamar Jackson and the Ravens.

Tyrod Taylor will likely be the starting quarterback for this game and for the rest of the season in place of Justin Fields.

The Ravens (5-5) have won four straight and are one game behind the Pittsburgh Steelers for first place in the AFC North. Jackson should be good to go for Sunday.

With that, here are Jets WIre’s are three keys to victory against the Ravens in Week 12:

Balanced Offense

The last time Tyrod Taylor filled in for Justin Fields, Offensive Coordinator Tanner Engstrand outsmarted himself by calling 23 straight pass plays knowing the Jets have a solid running game. It was puzzling and a bit unfair to Taylor as the Jets were only down by four points to the Carolina Panthers.

Having Taylor as the starting quarterback should allow the Jets to get a better look at receivers Adonai Mitchell, John Metchie III and Arian Smith. While he may want to lean on the pass more now that he has a quarterback who can get the ball down the field, Engstrand needs to remember that the Jets are the fifth best rushing team in the league, averaging 144 yards per game.

The Ravens defense allows an average of 354 yards per game, seventh worst in the league. Engstrand needs to run a balanced offense and not put all the pressure on Taylor’s arm like he did against Carolina.

Protect Tyrod at All Costs

The Jets offensive line is a strong unit and the number of sacks they’ve allowed this season is a bit misleading due to Justin Fields holding the football for too long. Tyrod Taylor is 36 years old and is always at risk for injury. The team heads into Baltimore motivated and perhaps very confident they can beat the Ravens with a new starter at quarterback, even if he’s not the most durable.

It’s imperative that the offensive line protect Taylor at all costs. He’ll get sacked, but they must limit the number of hits he takes against the Ravens defense. Luckily, for the Jets, Baltimore only has 15 sacks on the season, which is fourth worst in the league.

Justin Fields will be the backup quarterback and if they have to go to him for any reason, the team’s confidence could completely disappear and the game could get ugly fast.

Don’t Over Pursue on Defense

I’m not sure if there is such a thing as being conservative on defense, but it may be a strategy the Jets need to adopt against Lamar Jackson. The defense leaves way too much open field available when they can’t get to the quarterback and it burns them every single time.

Steve Wilks needs to devise a game plan to try and get after the quarterback but also make sure they stay disciplined to not allow Jackson to roam free for yards in the open field. The linebackers, Quincy Williams, Jamien Sherwood and Kiko Mauigoa, need to anticipate when Jackson may run and not be too aggressive in pursuit. Jackson is one of the most elusive quarterbacks in the game and a conservative approach on defense could be a key to containing him and the Ravens offense.
