Charlie Cummings breaks down his prediction and pick for Sunday’s Week 12 clash between the New York Giants and the Detroit Lions.

Sunday’s battle between the New York Giants and the Detroit Lions is a battle between the haves and the have-nots. As the Giants’ season spirals out of control, it becomes another season where they look to the draft to patch things up. Meanwhile, the Lions are stuck in a heated NFC North division battle. These games with gulfs between the two teams always create a fascinating betting market.

The Lions enter as 13.5-point home favorites on DraftKings Sportsbook, while the Giants are listed as +625 underdogs. The game’s total is set at 50.5 points. Here is my preview, pick, and prediction for Sunday’s Week 12 matchup between the Giants and Lions.

Giants vs. Lions Preview

New York’s bad luck just keeps getting worse. First, they lost star wideout Malik Nabers to the infamous MetLife turf. Then, promising rookie running back Cam Skattebo suffered a brutal ankle injury. Now, rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart is ruled out with a concussion.

So, who do you turn to when the entire offense is falling apart? None other than Mr. 30-30, Jameis Winston. I can’t think of many players a team would rather have in there when you need some volatility. He might throw the greatest deep ball you’ve ever seen — or the most bone-headed interception. Heck, he might do both in the same game. At the very least, he’ll bring you some sound bites.

Winston was the starter in last week’s 27-20 loss to the Green Bay Packers. Can he keep them close to a superior team once again?

By all metrics, the Lions should run away with this one. Their 6-4 record hides the profile of a true contender. Here are some stats where Detroit is in the top ten: points for, points against, passing yards per attempt (offense and defense), rushing yards per attempt (offense and defense), and turnovers.

The bellwether of this team is Jahmyr Gibbs. When their lightning back runs for 50+ yards, the team is 6-1. They’re 0-3 when he’s bottled up on the ground. When Gibbs is on, there’s no stopping him and this Detroit offense.

Giants vs. Lions Prediction, Pick

The bad news for the Giants is that they will try to contain Gibbs, David Montgomery, and an elite play-action offense with the worst rushing defense in the NFL. New York allows opponents to run for 5.5 yards per carry, which is higher than Gibbs’ 5.2 yards per carry average this season. When you make every running back look like Gibbs, what happens when Gibbs actually shows up?

Perhaps the volatility of Jameis Winston can keep them hanging around. But I’m not putting my money on that.

Best Bet: Detroit Lions -13.5 Points (-105)
