Despite his retaliating blow being socially warranted, the NFL had to punish Jalen Ramsey accordingly. The Pittsburgh Steelers veteran defensive back was fined by the league office for punching Cincinnati Bengals receiver Ja’Marr Chase, who spit on him a moment before during last Sunday’s game.
“NFL fined Steelers DB Jalen Ramsey $14,491 for punching Bengals WR Ja’Marr Chase last Sunday,” ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter wrote Saturday on X.
Ramsey and Chase had exchanged pleasantries leading up to the incident, but the former’s view on the matter was blunt.

“He spit on me, so it’s up. I don’t give a fuck about football after that — respectfully,” Ramsey said. “I’m always gonna be all for trash-talking, shit-talking, stuff like that. I actually enjoy that part of the game. I think people know that. And that’s what we (were) doing. I mean, after the first one — the first little thing — the play before, he tried to, like, crack block me or whatever. I got up off that and then we got up talking shit or whatever and he snatched my mouthpiece off my facemask, and that’s when I pushed his facemask.”
Following the game, Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin was unhappy with Ramsey for being ejected, but supported the player’s reaction when he spoke on Tuesday.
Chase was suspended one game without pay for his role in what occurred.
