The Indianapolis Colts are getting a big boost this week at two of their defensive position groups.

On Saturday, the team activated Charvarius Ward from injured reserve. He will play against Kansas City, lining up opposite of Sauce Gardner at cornerback.

The other boost is coming at defensive end. After missing three games with a knee injury, Samson Ebukam returned to practice this week and did not have an injury designation on Friday.

Tyquan Lewis, who also missed the last few games with a groin injury, returned to practice on Thursday and was originally listed as questionable.

However, his injury designation has been removed, meaning he is good to go for Sunday’s game.

This will be the first time that the Colts have gone into a game at full strength at defensive end since their Week 7 game against the LA Chargers.

Without Ebukam and Lewis, Kwity Paye and Laiatu Latu shouldered the workload at defensive end, with JT Tuimoloau being mixed in and getting some rotational work. Durell Nchami played just four total snaps over the last two games.

Defensive end is a relatively heavily rotated position, with oftentimes four players seeing regular snaps. Without Lewis and Ebukam, the Colts primarily leaned on just two players, Paye and Latu, in recent games.

Along with the production that Lewis and Ebukam can bring, a deeper rotation could benefit Paye and Latu as well.
