It’s probably more bad than good for the Buffalo Bills, but at least their last decision looks right.

The Buffalo Bills traded cornerback Kaiir Elam to the Dallas Cowboys back in March. Sending out a former first-round pick still on their rookie deal is never a good sign.

But Buffalo, who also gave Dallas a sixth-round selection in 2025 in the deal, ended up with Round 5 (2025) and Round 6 (2026) picks in the trade.

In the end, the Cowboys ended their experiment with Elam after just 10 games.

On Saturday, Elam was waived by Dallas;

Elam was the 23rd overall pick in 2022 out of Florida.

It remains to be seen what happens with Elam. Whether he’s back with the Cowboys via their practice squad remains to be seen, but could the Bills do the same? Regardless, Elam failed to meet expectations in western New York and Arlington.

Pro Football Focus graded Elam a 59.6 overall mark in 2025. That was the 61st best grade among 108 qualifying cornerbacks. After notching two interceptions as a rookie with the Bills, Elam has failed to record one since.

Buffalo used the 2025 fifth-round pick acquired from Dallas to select Ohio State defensive back Jordan Hancock.
