The Los Angeles Chargers are angling to make a deep playoff run for the first time under star quarterback Justin Herbert, who has quietly been one of the best quarterbacks in the league this season.

The Chargers’ win over the Tennessee Titans on Sunday improved the team to 6-3 on the season, just one game behind the Denver Broncos for first place in the tightly contested AFC West, where Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs also happen to reside.

Unfortunatley, it’s going to be a lot harder for Herbert and the chargers to keep up the stellar play over the second half of the season, as arguably their best palyer not named Justin Herbert is done for the series, and news of his absence will probably hit Herbert the hardest of all, considering how vital the teammate was in making his life easier on Sundays.

“Joe Alt will undergo season-ending ankle surgery, the #Chargers announce,” reported the Athletic’s Daniel Popper on Monday.

Then an ESPN insider put the injury into context with another injury the Chargers and Herbert are dealing with.

“Chargers now have lost both their starting OTs, Joe Alt and Rashawn Slater, to season-ending injuries,” Adam Schefter reported.

It’ll be interesting to see how the second half of the Chargers’ season goes after such a devastating loss.
