The Vikings have a history of hitting homeruns by finding talent post-draft by signing UDFAs under Kwesi Aodo-Mensah.

In recent years, he has found the likes of Ivan Pace Jr., Gabriel Murphy, and Bo Richter. PFF has already picked Tyler Batty as the next star to emerge from his UDFA signings. As they explain, the BYU pass rusher is expected to play a role in the Vikings’ talented pass rush rotation.

“The Vikings appear flush with defensive line talent and drafted edge defender Dallas Turner in the first round a year ago. There still may be room for a talented UDFA such as Batty to crack the roster or practice squad, though.”

Seeing Batty’s success at BYU, it is easy to understand why they tabbed him as the next player to make the roster despite having a longer road ahead of him.

“Batty posted a solid 13.5% pass-rush win rate and earned a 76th-percentile PFF run-defense grade in 2024. His undrafted status was surprising, considering he ranked 116th on PFF’s big board and racked up 143 quarterback pressures during his college career.”

Brian Flores has shown that he will be timid in giving rookies too much of a workload incase they earn it.

Seeing who earns what reps through OTAs, minicamp, and into training camp will be telling. If Batty can earn more reps as the days and weeks roll on through these, he will have a better chance than most to be able to earn a meaningful role.
