The Carolina Panthers (6-5) and San Francisco 49ers (7-4) meet for Monday Night Football in Week 12. Kickoff from Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California, is scheduled for 8:15 p.m. ET (ESPN). Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s NFL odds around the Panthers vs. 49ers odds and make our expert NFL picks and predictions for the best bets.
The Panthers lead the all-time series 13-10, although the 49ers have won the 2 most recent meetings. San Francisco won 37-15 in Carolina on Oct. 9, 2022, and the 49ers routed the Panthers 51-13 on Oct. 27, 2019, in the most recent meeting in the Bay Area. Carolina’s last win in the series was a 23-3 win with QB Cam Newton back in 2017. RB Christian McCaffrey ran for 47 yards with 5 grabs for 38 yards as a member of the Panthers in his first-ever NFL game.
McCaffrey was drafted No. 8 overall in the 2017 NFL Draft by the Panthers, but he was traded to the 49ers in October 2022. It’s the first time CMC will play against his former team.
The Panthers are coming off a 30-27 win in overtime at Atlanta, covering as 3.5-point underdogs as the Over (41.5) cashed. QB Bryce Young threw for a franchise-record 448 yards, 3 TDs and 0 INTs, while rookie WR Tetairoa McMillan posted 8 grabs for 130 yards and 2 TDs. WR Xavier Legette chimed in with 4 receptions, 83 yards and a score, while RB Rico Dowdle posted 100 total yards from scrimmage on 24 total touches.
On the road, the Panthers have won 3 in a row, while also covering those games. They’re 5-3 against the spread (ATS) in the past 8 outings. The Under is 3-2 in the past 5 games, but the Over is 5-3 in the past 8 outings.
The 49ers blasted the Arizona Cardinals 41-22 on the road as 3.5-point favorites last week as the Over (48.5) cashed. The Niners lost 42-26 at home to the LA Rams in the most recent game at Levi’s, however, and San Francisco is just 1-2 straight up at home in the past 3 home games, while going 1-3 ATS at home. The Over is 3-0 in the past 3 games for the 49ers, and 6-1-1 in the past 8 games.
QB Brock Purdy (toe) appears in line to start again after being in, and mostly out, of the lineup for a majority of the season. WR Ricky Pearsall is also back for a second straight game after missing time due to injury. The 49ers are healthier on offense than they’ve been most of the season.
For injuries, PK Eddy Pineiro (hamstring), a former Carolina kicker, is out for San Francisco. The team added PK Matt Gay, recently released by the Washington Commanders, as the fill-in. LB Tatum Bethune (ankle) is also out, and he has been filling in for LB Fred Warner, who suffered a season-ending ankle injury against the Buccaneers.

The PANTHERS (+300) are worth a roll of the dice for the chance to triple up. Carolina is playing a rare prime-time game, and Young is coming off a career game. The Panthers stunned the Green Bay Packers at Lambeau Field a few weeks ago as a huge underdog, and they have played better on the road than at home.
Dowdle should run wild, as the Bethune injury shouldn’t be discounted. He was doing a good job in place of the heart and soul of the defense, Warner, but not Bethune is also out in the middle. That 49ers defense will be a bit squishy.
Play the PANTHERS +7.5 (-110) on the road, if you just can’t bring yourself to go straight up.
Carolina has won and covered 3 in a row on the road, while San Francisco is 1-3 ATS in 4 games at home this season, while losing 2 of the past 3.
OVER 49.5 (-110) is worth playing lightly, but don’t get carried away.
The Over cashed for Carolina last week, and it is 5-3 in the past 8 games for the Panthers. However, the Panthers have scored 16 or fewer in 4 of the past 5 games, and in single digits twice.
San Francisco is down to its third-string linebacker in the middle with Warner and Bethune out. It will be tough to stop the run, a strength of Carolina. And, the Niners have cashed high in 3 in a row.
