SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) – The Atlanta Falcons snapped a five-game losing streak with a victory over the New Orleans Saints, while the Jacksonville Jaguars survived an overtime thriller against the Arizona Cardinals to improve to 7-4.
Falcons 24, Saints 10
Kirk Cousins threw for two touchdowns as Atlanta defeated the 2-8 Saints. Cousins connected with David Sills V for a 9-yard touchdown, Sills’ first career score, giving the Falcons a 10-0 lead.
New Orleans responded when Cousins’ pass was tipped and intercepted by Justin Reid, who returned it for a touchdown — his first in seven years.
In the fourth quarter, Cousins found Darnell Mooney for a 49-yard touchdown pass. The score was Cousins’ 290th career touchdown pass, tying Johnny Unitas for 17th all-time.
“Most wins in this league are team wins but today certainly was one when you think about how the offense made plays, but the defense only allowing three points, and special teams standing up for multiple moments whether it was kicks or the field position they gave us,” Cousins said. “It felt like we kind of leaned on everybody today, and that’s what makes it fun — feeling like you’re flying home as a whole team that contributed to win that game.”
Jaguars 27, Cardinals 24 (OT)
Jacksonville, currently holding a wild card playoff spot, needed overtime to defeat Arizona. Travis Etienne scored on the Jaguars’ opening drive.
Arizona answered when Trevor Lawrence was hit and fumbled, leading to a Cardinals touchdown that tied the game.
After four lead changes, Lawrence connected with Parker Washington in the fourth quarter on a diving catch to put Jacksonville ahead by three points.
Arizona kicked a field goal at the end of regulation to force overtime.
In the extra period, the Jaguars got the ball first and Cam Little converted a 52-yard field goal. Arizona had one final chance on fourth down, but the pass fell incomplete, securing Jacksonville’s victory.
The win moves the Jaguars to 7-4 on the season as they maintain their wild card position.
