The Washington Commanders have had a horrible month of November.
The team welcomed star quarterback Jayden Daniels back from injury at the beginning of the month in Week 9 against the Seattle Seahawks. Unfortunately, Daniels suffered another injury late in the blowout loss and has not returned to the field since.
In Daniels’ absence since Week 9, the Commanders have not won a game and have fallen to 3-8 on the season. Daniels was never added to injured reserve, so many were wondering when the passer would return in 2025. Others wondered if the team would shut Daniels down for the season due to the team being out of contention.
However, head coach Dan Quinn provided an update on Monday, and it sounds like Daniels could be back sooner than later.
Speaking with the media, Quinn said Daniels has not been cleared for contact yet, and is “unlikely to play Sunday,” but he is back at practice.
“He will be able to return to practice,” Quinn explained. “We had our first session today. But he has not been cleared for contact, so he’ll be unlikely to play (Sunday).”
This means Daniels’ next chance to play will be in Week 14 against the Minnesota Vikings. It’s encouraging that the young star is able to practice again, and the hope now is that he stays healthy and ends the 2025 season on a positive note.
Without Daniels in Week 13, the team will seemingly deploy Marcus Mariota once again. Mariota has thrown for 1,065 yards with seven touchdowns and five interceptions, while also 193 yards and one rushing score in 2025.
