The Kansas City Chiefs have selected Oregon Linebacker Jeffery Bassa with the 156th pick in the 2025 NFL Draft.
6’1” | 230 lbs. | Oregon
Salt Lake City, Utah
Background: A four-star recruit out of the Salt Lake City area, Bassa entered Oregon as a freshman in 2021, having turned down offers from multiple other power-five schools. Bassa came to Oregon, but due to his stature, he quickly transitioned to linebacker, where he would eventually start.
Bassa was a four-year player for the Ducks, starting his final two seasons and earning All-Pac-12 and All-Big 10 honors.
Finishing the 2024 season with 54 tackles and two forced fumbles, Bassa was a key piece in a Ducks defense that won the PAC-12 and made it to the college football playoffs. A good coverage player, Bassas has the potential to be a solid Will linebacker in most NFL defenses.
Strengths: With his background as a secondary player, Bassa has natural instincts in pass coverage. A good workout at the combine also showed that he has the needed speed and closing ability to cover the flats, as well as tight ends in coverage. He is a solid tackler in space and should be able to be a solid fundamental player.
Weaknesses: Bassa lacks play strength and point-of-attack strength to be an every-down defender early in his career. This will limit him to passing only downs, and he will need to work and improve his ability to play the run.
How he fits with the Chiefs: Bassa will provide quality depth to the Chiefs’ linebacker room and should be a four-phase special-teams player early on in his career. His coverage skills will allow him opportunities to play in the Chiefs ‘ sub-package looks early on while he continues to develop his game.
