Bill Belichick’s circle apparently left prospective NFL employers uneasy.

That’s according to Pablo Torre, who expanded on the limited post-Patriots opportunities for Belichick following his split from the organization in January 2024, claiming the eight-time Super Bowl winner’s “ability to surround himself with the right people” was viewed as a red flag.

“The reason I was told that Belichick did not get any NFL jobs – logically, you think also isn’t it weird he reached the end of the line with New England and he can’t get a job in the NFL — it’s because, A) he wanted to be the GM and the coach … and what NFL teams told me is that, what they stopped trusting was Bill Belichick’s ability to surround himself with the right people, as in, they didn’t trust who he would bring into the building,” Torre said during a recent appearance on the “Joe Budden Podcast.”

Belichick, 73, spent 24 seasons in New England and won six Super Bowls alongside future Hall of Famer Tom Brady.

Four seasons after Brady’s departure in 2020, Belichick and the Patriots parted ways. The defensive guru was only linked to the Falcons vacancy during the 2024 hiring cycle, a job that went to Raheem Morris.

Belichick then pivoted to sports media before linking up with North Carolina in what’s been a lightning-rod of a first season in Chapel Hill.

Torre, known for his headline-making investigations into Belichick’s romance with 24-year-old Jordon Hudson, then noted how one’s coaching tree can measure an individual’s success before picking apart Belichick’s.

“All these guys try to do Bill Belichick karaoke when they get a full-time job, they fail. And so, at this point, the thing that I think about in terms of what’s so weird about this guy who lived his life in public one way and is now living his life in public in a totally opposite way, is that he gets thrown out of the NFL, and part of the reason is they don’t trust who he’s going to be around,” Torre said. “And so, when Bill Belichick is now flailing at Carolina, what I think about is, god damn, they supported him in New England. He had the people around him to make up for the ways he was deficient.”

Torre then looked to an alleged descriptor from Belichick’s former employer.

“Bob Kraft, the owner of the Patriots, once said he is an idiot savant,” said Torre, referencing a line Kraft allegedly uttered about Belichick, according to Seth Wickersham’s 2021 tome “It’s Better To Be Feared.”

“He is a savant in football, the greatest defensive strategist in the history of football, and yet, he is a total idiot in lots of other ways.”

Belichick is nearing the end of a 4-7 campaign at UNC, with much of the attention centered on his life outside of football.

Hudson, who was first publicly linked to Belichick in 2024, was apparently on the receiving end of a lengthy tirade from the coach’s daughter-in-law earlier this month.

Recently, the former college cheerleader set her sights on Torre, stating Sunday that she intends to sue the ex-ESPN reporter.
