Oregon State football’s coaching search was expected to wrap up on Wednesday, but uncertainty as candidates drop out of the race is leaving recruits wondering what is next.

One such recruit, three-star wide receiver/corner Malcolm Watkins, announced his decommitment from the Beavers on Wednesday night.

“I have decided to reopen my recruitment due to the uncertainties surrounding the head coaching situation,” Watkins wrote.

Watkins is rated the No. 58 ATH in the country and No. 67 player in California according to 247Sports’ composite rankings. He had been committed to the Beavers since June.

OSU is down to just seven commits from the 2026 high school class, and is at risk of losing another as UCLA reportedly tries to flip three-star wide receiver Cynai Thomas — brother of current OSU senior safety Skyler Thomas.

OSU’s other six commits, all three-star recruits, are running back Braylon Tolliver (Erie, CO); tight end Landon Cook (Concord, CA); linebacker Jeremiah Brown (San Jacinto, CA); cornerback Kai Wheaton (Allen, TX); edge rusher Adel Dorr (Issaquah, WA); and safety Cammeron Purnell (San Diego, CA).

Oregon State (2-9) at Washington State (5-6)
