Like many Americans, Baker Mayfield has plenty of Thanksgiving memories, though not all of them are good.

Speaking with the media on Wednesday, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback recalled a time in college when his father put him and his brother in their place and spoiled the November holiday.

“My dad ruined Thanksgiving one day because we did a throwing competition in the backyard of my grandparents’ house, and he wound up winning. This is when I was in college.” Mayfield said.

“So that ruined Thanksgiving for me and my brother. That’s a core memory, something I still hold dearly.”

Mayfield hopes to create some better Thanksgiving memories this year by being healthy enough to start for the Buccaneers (6-5) in their Week 13 matchup with the Arizona Cardinals (3-8).

The eight-year NFL quarterback was sidelined for the entire second half against the Los Angeles Rams after spraining his left shoulder in a devastating 34-7 loss on Nov. 23
