Jacksonville Jaguars’ Week 13 matchup vs. Titans could start a run

Jacksonville Jaguars Florida Times-Union beat reporter Demetrius Harvey breaks down the major storyline involving the team this week vs. Tennessee.

Jacksonville Jaguars wide receiver Brian Thomas Jr. is set to return to play Sunday against the Tennessee Titans.

Thomas missed the last three games of the season with a high ankle sprain, and ramped up his practice workload this week, working in full Thursday and Friday after working limited last week and Wednesday this week.

Jaguars head coach Liam Coen said Friday that he would anticipate Thomas’ return to be similar to tight end Brenton Strange’s last week.

“He brought some juice to practice yesterday in a big way in terms of being able to get that connection going again. That’s something that we’re going to need down this stretch and when you have somebody that, he’s feeling better, he is getting healthier, that’s so big for our offense to be able to attack people now at all three levels,” Coen explained.

“So, we’ll see what the rep count comes out to be because you do still have to monitor and make sure that when you have a guy coming off of a high ankle sprain that plays a position that involves running and cutting and doing all those things, you want to make sure you’re – similar to Brenton [TE Brenton Strange], I think you could say, last week – where you’re just trying to make sure that, hey, we want to get him going.”

Strange returned and was the team’s leading receiver in the team’s win against the Cardinals last week with five catches for 93 yards.

Jacksonville also got positive and negative news on its offensive line, with right tackle Anton Harrison ready to return after missing the last two games due to knee/ankle injuries sustained against the Houston Texans in Week 10. On the flipside, Jacksonville is set to be without both right guard Patrick Mekari and swing tackle/guard Chuma Edoga.

Earlier this week, the Jaguars opened safety Eric Murray’s 21-day practice window to return to play from injured reserve. Murray practiced limited this week, but is not yet ready to go. Murray was officially ruled out on Friday afternoon.

Meanwhile, the team will need to wait longer for defensive end Travon Walker’s return.
