Stroud missed the last three games while in concussion protocol. Safety Jalen Pitre is also expected to return.

HOUSTON — QB1 is back for the Houston Texans.

Quarterback C.J. Stroud, who missed the last three games while in concussion protocol, will start Sunday in a critical division showdown with the first-place Colts in Indianapolis. It’s a game you can watch live on KHOU 11 at noon.

Backup Davis Mills led the Texans to three straight wins while Stroud was out.

Aside from Stroud, safety Jalen Pitre also cleared concussion protocol and is expected to return Sunday.   Defensive end Will Anderson Jr., who was held out of practice most of the week with a chest injury, returned Friday.

When asked about his status, Texans head coach DeMeco Ryans said, “Will is fine.”

Houston is 6-5 on the season and currently sits behind both the Jacksonville Jaguars (7-4) and the frontrunning Colts (8-3) in the AFC South.

If the playoffs started today, Houston would be on the outside looking in, but they do still have two games against the Colts, making those head-to-head match-ups critical if the Texans hope to claim another division title.

If they don’t win the AFC South, they’re one of several teams in the running for a wild card spot.
