Will Reichard made field goals of 52 and 59 yards in the Minnesota Vikings’ most recent game. The longer kick made him the first player in NFL history with four field goals of 59 yards or longer in one season.
Reichard said he’s just trying to do “whatever I can to help the team win.”
It’s an attitude developed while the former Hoover High School standout kicked at Alabama.
“Coach Saban just preaching to everyone, no matter your position, you’re trying to do your job,” Reichard said. “It’s kind of an impact he has on you — pretty big. Probably the greatest college football coach ever. You know, there’s times that I look back and I wish that I would have had my notepad out a little bit more in meetings. So many things that I could write down and just even 20 years from now look back and, if I’m going through something, just kind of see the wisdom that he had.”

Minnesota didn’t win on Sunday, though. Reichard’s long-range field goals accounted for all the Vikings’ points in a 23-6 loss to the Green Bay Packers.
Reichard has made 21 of his 23 field-goal attempts this season. He’s connected on all 19 of his extra points, making him 57-of-57 in that stat during his two NFL seasons.
“This dude works hard, man,” said Matt Daniels, Minnesota’s special-teams coordinator. “I’ve never seen anyone work as hard as this guy does.”
With eight, Reichard is tied with Chase McLaughlin of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for the most field goals of 50-or-more yards this season. Reichard is 8-of-10 from 50 or farther, with a long of 62 and the misses coming from 51 and 53 yards
“I think this guy is a All-Pro kicker in my mind,” Daniels said. “… He continues to build on a incredible resume going into his second year. And this guy is a weapon for us that, hopefully, continues to excel, which I expect fully for him to do.”
Reichard said he tries “to treat every kick like it’s the same. Go out there and try to execute as best as I can. Don’t try to make anything too complicated. Just try to go out there and do my job for my team.”
Reichard said his success on extra-long field-goal attempts doesn’t come from practicing them.
“I honestly don’t hit too many in practice during the week,” Reichard said, “just because if I’m hitting one from 55, I can see how much it has left on it, so that’s kind of my gauge. I don’t really want to go back super far all the time because I feel like it creates a little bit of bad habits. …
“You know, swinging a little too hard maybe if you go back too far and then you’re creating some technique things that probably aren’t going to work out the best, so whenever I get in that situation, I just, you know, I have a little bit of adrenaline so the ball goes a little bit further.”
After going 14-3 in Reichard’s rookie season, the Vikings have slumped to 4-7 in 2025. Minnesota plays the Seattle Seahawks at 3:05 p.m. CST Sunday at Lumen Field in Seattle.
