The Pittsburgh Steelers are struggling, and that’s not breaking news in any way. However, is there a team in the NFL who is dominating right now?
Two weeks ago people who have said the Philadelphia Eagles. Now, after two straight losses, the sentiment has changed.
Some said earlier this season the Buffalo Bills would be the team to beat in the AFC. They have struggled over the past month, most recently a loss to the Houston Texans.
No one gave the Chicago Bears any credit with their 7-3 record, but back-to-back wins the last two weeks has them not just in the NFC North, but looking like a team on the rise.
Even in the AFC North, when the Steelers lost in Chicago last week, and the Ravens held serve vs. the Jets, most assumed Baltimore wouldn’t relinquish their grip on the division lead. Thursday night a bad loss to the Bengals has people thinking otherwise.
Maybe more than any other season in recent memory, the NFL has turned into a week-to-week league. It’s always been about getting hot at the right time, but more than ever you have no clue what you’re going to get when two teams take the field. Record doesn’t matter, historical facts don’t matter, and the odds don’t matter. It is truly a crapshoot in 2025.
And that gives hope for the Steelers.
For anyone who doesn’t think the Steelers can’t beat the Bills this Sunday hasn’t been paying attention to not only the Steelers 2025 regular season, but also this NFL regular season.
Remember what everyone was thinking before the Indianapolis Colts invaded Acrisure Stadium in Week 9? The Steelers were coming off back-to-back losses to the Bengals and Packers, both in prime time, and fans were ready for the fall out. The Steelers stunned the NFL world when they stopped the Colts in every facet, and had those good feeling vibes back.
At this stage of the season, the Steelers are capable of beating anyone, and also capable of losing to everyone. This is true for almost all NFL teams, and it should give fans hope for the future.
But there lies the rub.
With the NFL playing out the way it has to date, even including the Steelers, the key will be which team can find some level of consistency down the stretch. As the calendar turns from November to December, Steelers fans have nightmares of the “unleashing hell” which didn’t take place back in 2009. While Tomlin never uttered this type of declaration like this again, the Steelers have faltered down the stretch more often than not. Do we need to recall the team stumbling down the stretch just last season?
Are the odds in the Steelers favor to turn things around and find a level of consistency in the final six games?
No, not at all.
But in this off-the-wall NFL season anything is possible, and that includes the Steelers finding a way to turn things around.
It all starts with the Bills on Sunday in Week 13, and that means it could be the start of something special. Or could the beginning of the end. In the 2025 NFL, anything is possible.
