The Seattle Seahawks placed third-string running back George Holani on injured reserve and signed former UW Huskies star running back Myles Gaskin from their practice squad to their 53-man roster on Saturday.

The Seahawks also elevated recently signed safety Quandre Diggs and running back Velus Jones Jr. from the practice squad ahead of Sunday’s Week 13 clash against the Minnesota Vikings.

Holani suffered a hamstring injury in last week’s win over the Tennessee Titans. By landing on IR, the second-year pro will be required to miss at least the next four games. He has 73 yards and a touchdown on 22 carries this season, along with two catches for 15 yards.

Gaskin, Jones and Cam Akers – who was signed to Seattle’s 53-man roster earlier this week – provide running back depth with Holani out. Jones also has considerable NFL kick return experience and could fill in for Holani as one of the team’s two primary kick returners.

Gaskin, an O’Dea High School product and UW’s all-time career rushing leader, signed with the Seahawks’ practice squad earlier this season. He has appeared in 46 games over his seven-year NFL career, with most of his action coming during his first three seasons with the Miami Dolphins from 2019 to 2021. He has yet to appear in a game with Seattle.

Jones initially signed with the Seahawks’ practice squad last month after being released by the New Orleans Saints. He has appeared in 34 games over four NFL seasons, including five games with the Saints this year. He has 48 career kick returns, with an average of 25.9 yards per return.

Diggs, a former three-time Pro Bowler with the Seahawks, signed with Seattle’s practice squad earlier this week after spending the past one and a half seasons with the Titans. The 32-year-old veteran had 18 interceptions and 32 pass breakups during his success-filled four and a half seasons with the Seahawks from 2019 to 2023.

Diggs provides depth in the secondary with Seattle potentially down a pair of safeties on Sunday. Starting safety Julian Love remains on IR with a hamstring injury, while backup Ty Okada is questionable with an oblique injury.
